Study Shows Massage Beneficial for Advanced Cancer

An exciting new study from the University of California, San Diego, Oncology-trained Licensed Massage Therapists brought relief to those suffering from advanced cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, massage is “thought almost universally to be a beneficial therapy.  It is helpful not only physically but emotionally as well, because it soothes the soul and the mind.”  Massage cannot cure cancer, but it has been shown in several studies to improve quality of life and well-being.

Workaholism a Sign of Poor Time Management

In researching how to get more and better sleep, I came across this article on the National Sleep Foundation’s website: Time Management Expert Says “Take Time For Sleep!”

I find the work of providing massage therapy to be rather exhausting, emotionally and physically. If you find your work as taxing as I do, ask yourself honestly, “Am I getting enough sleep?”

Tired, achey muscles? Contrast showers can help.

I know I feel draggy and stiff the day after doing a new activity, or one I haven’t done in a while. I’ve been struggling with muscle soreness for ages, and the older I get, the more I seem to drag. Stretching, though integral to my health, has not been proven–either in scientific research or in my own experience–to relieve muscular discomfort from overuse.

Googling in frustration, I stumbled across a method used by professional athletes (albeit with more sophisticated equipment): contrast showers. (more…)

Treating Fibromyalgia

Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic musculoskeletal condition expressed in widespread pain over the entire body coupled with fatigue and sleep disorders. It effects approximately 7 million Americans and is more frequent in women than men. The cause is mostly unknown and no absolute cure exists, so many FM sufferers seek alternative modalities in search of relief.
